Striped Bass

Connecticut Length requirement for 2005 season is 28 inches with a creel limit of 2 per person. Striper is our prime target on the Good Company II. Best time to catch your Striper is early (May early June) before the bluefish take over the bait and send the Stripers deeper and harder to catch.  Bass move in before most species and stay all through the season into November.  Stripers can reach up to 60 lbs. plus.  An average fish will weigh in at 20 lbs.
No Closed Season.

Bluefish

Pound for pound Bluefish give you the biggest bang for the buck. If you're a sport fisherman, you'll have a blast pulling in these major fighters.  Creel limit is 10 fish per person with no minimum length.  Weight can reach toward 25 lbs.  We sometimes scale down to a lighter tackle when the situation arises.  Fighting these fish this way will give you a memorable fishing experience!
No Closed Season.

Porgy

Porgies are great little balls of fun and delicious eating.  You can fish for Porgy if you max out early enough with a 7-hour Striper Trip, or if you book a bottom fishing trip looking for Porgy, Black sea bass, and Fluke.  Creel limit for Porgy is 25 fish per person June 1 - August 31, with a length of 10.5 inches.  A Creel limit of 60 per person is for Charter Party Boats only and will start September 1st. through October 31st. when they are nice and plump.  Average weight of these fish - approximately 2 lbs. up to 4 lbs.
Season Opens - June 1 - Oct. 31
Closed Season - November 1 - June 30
Special Charter Boat Season - 60 fish per person - Sept1 -Oct 31

Fluke (Summer Flounder)
fluke.jpg (22714 bytes)

Minimum size for Fluke is 18 inches, the daily Creel limit is 6 fish per angler.  When you have a doormat size Fluke on the end of your line you will soon find out the definition of arm buster.  The big ones can grow up to 36 inches and weigh in at 20 lbs. almost like a mini Halibut!  Filets are absolutely delicate and delicious.
Season Opens - April 30 - December 31
Closed Season - January 1 - April 29

Winter Flounder
flounder.jpg (15609 bytes)

One of the most popular fish and best tasting in the waters of the Atlantic.  Minimum size is 12 inches and the Daily Creel limit is 8 per angler.  Flounders will give a good fight and are lots fun to catch.
No Closed Season.

Black Sea Bass
seabass.gif (67457 bytes)

Minimum size is 12 inches with Creel limit of 25 fish per angler.  These great fish have nice white meat and are very tasty. We target them in our local waters while fishing for porgies and fluke, but have great results at Montauk and block island with usually constant action. We can tailor our normal 8 hour bass trip to include this species after the morning bite if you would like to fish for them.  Everyone gets to fish at the same time which is always fun.  You never know what is looming in the depths when you put your bait down there at Block Island or Montauk.  We catch a wide variety of species when bottom fishing.  Average weight 6 - 7 lbs.
No Closed Season

Tautog (Blackfish)
tautog.jpg (27817 bytes)

Minimum size is 14 inches, daily Creel limit is 4 fish per angler. This is another species we go after in the early season and especially in the fall. They are scrappy fighters when you try to pull them out of the rocks.  Blackfish are great eating either baked stuffed with a seafood stuffing, broiled with butter and lemon or used for fish chowder.  Nice white meat and very tasty.  A favorite with many anglers.
Average weight 3 -10 lbs.  The big ones can tip the scales at 20 lbs.
Season opens Jan. 1 - April 30, June 15 - Sept. 7 and Sept. 22 - Dec. 13
