FISHING FACTS

Good Company II

At certain stages of the tide we use different methods for catching Blues and Bass.  When the tide is running hard we tend to fish in deeper waters since the fish have a very hard time staying in shallow water where the venturi effect of deep water meeting a shallow spot increases the speed of the tide to a point where many fish cannot stay for extended periods of time.

Food is readily available to them in the deeper sections of water, so we present our lures to them  during this time. This method does require paying attention to your fishing rod.  The mate will be right there helping you understand the methods in order to catch the buggers!!

Seasons vary each year with frigid winters leaving the water colder.  The effect of a cold winter on the fish that appear in our waters early, makes them become somewhat lethargic and less apt to feed in a frenzy.  We still are able to catch but if it's still cold it is not as good as when the water warms up a little.  Usually by the middle of May this starts to happen and Stripers show up in numbers and become the main attraction.  You can easily catch your limit at this time of year.

Mid June will bring more Bluefish to the area as the ocean temperature rises, but we still catch Trophy Stripers mixed in with the Blues.  This is the time when we begin to travel to Block Island and Montauk Point to find said Stripers and Bluefish.  Also this is a good time to try a combination trip in which we fish for Stripers first, then target Fluke, Black Sea Bass, and Porgies.  Just ask Captain Joe or the Secretary that answers the phone when you book your trip so we can be prepared for a combination catch.

As the season progresses we start to fish for Black Sea Bass, Porgies (Scup), Fluke and Blackfish along with other bottom fish that take our offerings. We have a great time with the entire party fishing at the same time.  This tends to start a little camaraderie between everyone.  The result of bottom fishing during the season is always good eating for our customers.

You will be talking about your experience on The Good Company II for a long time.
